Medical diagnostics product development & consulting
Our work in diagnostics R&D
“Performing diagnostic testing outside of central laboratories improves access to healthcare and enables faster treatment decisions. We work with medical diagnostics companies to address user needs at Point of Care (PoC) and in other decentralised settings. Next generation devices must be quick, cost-effective, and match laboratory performance. Our team has the skills and experience to deliver these critical capabilities.”

Diagnostics R&D focus areas and expertise:
Sample acquisition and preparation play a crucial role in medical diagnostics. We can simplify and automate these steps to reduce preanalytical errors and variability.
Consumables are critical to many diagnostic processes. Our science and engineering teams work hand-in-hand to optimise the cost-efficiency and performance of consumables by combining their expertise in chemistry, microfluidics, detection, and manufacturing.
Point of Care instruments for “sample-in, results-out” devices and high throughput modules for central labs benefit from our design and system engineering capabilities.
Robust, intuitive design and minimal user steps enhance ease of use in decentralised settings and boost the likelihood of obtaining a CLIA waiver.
We have a dedicated team for the development of medical software, algorithms, and systems to manage samples and derive clinical decisions from complex data.

Trends in diagnostics R&D:
Use of molecular testing continues to grow and multiplexed diagnostics are becoming more cost-effective. There is much excitement around sequencing and bioinformatics for informed cancer decisions: increased use of liquid biopsies could unlock earlier intervention and better treatment outcomes. This is supported by advances in sample preparation to enhance selection of target DNA. AI is increasingly used in laboratory, pathology, and clinical decision making. Applications range from image analysis in haematology to the interpretation of mutation profiles which indicate disease status in oncology.
