This robust service has been designed using multiple cloud regions, automated failover, and geographic routing to provide the fastest possible response and therefore deliver a superior user experience.

The Frontier Smart Technologies devices contain relatively small amounts of flash memory, so it is not viable to store the database on the device. Also, the catalogue is constantly changing particularly when it comes to podcast episodes, so a cloud-based solution provides a better experience.

The cloud architecture allows for devices to always receive the very latest data and does so in twelve languages.

Geo IP resolution allows for the radio user interface to highlight local stations prominently while providing access to the entire catalogue.

When the user selects a radio station or podcast, the Internet Radio service provides the URL of the stream at which point the device connects directly to the content provider.

The Internet Radio application software and database are provided by a partner organisation and then deployed on Nuvola’s global resilient infrastructure.
